Southern is Hiring a Business Process Manager, Acquire to Retire / Project to Record Near Atlanta, GA

Job Summary:

The position is responsible for leading business process transformations, ensuring ongoing maintenance, and promoting active engagement to drive the development of our Acquire to Retire and Project to Record domains. This leader will manage the refinement of established processes to guarantee their efficiency and alignment with Southern Company goals. The position will be responsible for executing the complete project lifecycle, which includes acquiring assets, effectively managing assets throughout their lifecycle including project management of assets, retiring assets as needed, overseeing the management of depreciation and amortization, as well as handling tax depreciation processes. In this position, the manager will be responsible for guiding a minimum of six process teams, each headed by proficient process leaders, and encompassing various skilled process performers. This position will report to the Director of Process Management.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead the implementation of strategic changes in Acquire to Retire and Project to Record lifecycle processes.

  • Ensure enterprise-wide consistent approach to cost tracking, asset management and provide strategic planning support to gain efficiencies, satisfy compliance and/or reduce risks, while responding to business/technology changes.

  • Engage Property Accounting and project management personnel to ensure accurate capture and reporting of capital and lease project costs using the POET system, while also offering strategic planning assistance for value-add initiatives.

  • Manage the ongoing maintenance and optimization of established processes to ensure their efficiency and alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Ensure strategic management of the organization's assets throughout their lifecycle.

  • Ensure strategic management and alignment of the project management process across the organization.

  • Foster engagement among stakeholders, process leaders, and performers to encourage collaboration and innovation in process enhancement.

  • Monitor key performance indicators and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of process changes and drive continuous improvement.

  • Development of resources to build a team of professionals with strong knowledge of business processes and associated technologies.

  • Identify any risks associated with the process.​

  • Monitor the progress / benefit realization of any changes to the process.​

  • Communicate process-performance information to key stakeholders​.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a relevant field required

  • 5 years of experience in the electric or gas utility industry with at least 3 years of experience leading cross-functional departments and teams preferred.

  • Strong business knowledge and understanding of O&M and capital projects.

  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Fusion focused on project costing and project accounting/budgeting practices.

  • Proven track record in leading business process changes and driving organizational transformation.

  • Strong understanding of the Acquire to Retire & Project to Record process lifecycle and related industry best practices.

  • Partners with business leaders across the organization and works closely with the technology organization to ensure resources and strategies are aligned to current and future needs of the business.

  • Outstanding credibility and demonstrated ability to build strong relationships within the company and industry, as well as with vendors/suppliers.

  • Broad knowledge of the utility business functions and an understanding of how the Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain and Treasury functions add value to these organizations.

  • Ability to partner with peers across the Operating Companies and serve on system committees to ensure design elements meet business needs, create efficiencies and garner support for key issues affecting accounting, finance, treasury, and supply chain operations.

  • Ability to lead and manage through change. Should be recognized as a change agent.

  • Broad knowledge of the business functions and an understanding of how the Enterprise Foundations platform adds value to these organizations.
