Southern is Hiring a Remote Business Analyst I, II, III, IV or V

SUMMARY

The purpose of the Business Analyst position is to conduct analytical activities to support Southern Company Gas’ local distribution companies including data analysis, KPI reporting, segmentation, and research. The Business Analyst supports sales, business development, national accounts, and other business units with data, analysis, project/program evaluation, and planning and strategic decision-making.

This position may be filled as Business Analyst I, II, III, IV or V. Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education, and certifications may be eligible for the more advanced position.

This position follows a hybrid work schedule. Employees are required to be in the office three (3) days per week.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare recurring reports to assist sales, business development, and national accounts teams.

  • Compile, maintain, track, and report data from external sources to include energy prices, energy cost comparisons, as well as a variety of economic indicators.

  • Complete ad hoc requests for research, analysis, and reporting by pulling from diverse internal and external data sources, implementing the appropriate method of analysis, and presenting relevant insights.

  • Track and report on program effectiveness, including web analytics, response rates, and conversion rates.

  • Segment customers to analyze behavior to determine optimum product offerings, messaging, channels, audience, and programs to achieve business goals.

  • Support sales management in identifying new customers, markets, trends, and applications for natural gas and assesses the business impact of those implications.

  • Maintain and manage several databases and Power BI dashboards to support the Growth & Retention department. Create new Power BI dashboards providing tracking, trending, reporting, and business insights.

  • Consolidate analysis, summarize key findings and trends, and produce presentations.

  • Apply industry, marketing, business, and analytical knowledge to support business decisions and offer fresh and creative ideas for digital ads and marketing collateral.

  • Support departmental campaigns, programs, and initiatives by offering relevant ideas and strategies and tracking applicable metrics.

  • Responsible for forecasting customer growth and attrition with the use of statistical software.

  • Support the National Accounts team by providing service to both internal and external clients and conducting analysis. Establish partnerships to ensure the highest level of service for national accounts.

  • Provide research assistance for strategic planning and business development efforts as well as ad-hoc research requests.

  • Develop and administer internal and external surveys and provide full analysis of survey results.

  • Provide support and help manage programs focused on increasing the use of natural gas to include advertising, market research, rebates, field initiatives, etc.

  • Collaborate directly with natural gas marketers on opportunities to educate consumers on the benefits of natural gas and conversion opportunities.

  • Perform data quality verification checks on new and existing projects, customer data records, etc.

  • Provide backup assistance to other roles within the department, as needed.

  • Participate in special projects, as requested.

  • Other duties as assigned.

DESIRED QUALITIES & ABILITIES:

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Possess a robust attention to detail and ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets to identify trends, insights and/or solutions.

  • Proven ability to convert data into meaningful and actionable reports and presentations that successfully communicate information to management.

  • Exhibit high level of personal responsibility to data analysis and independently set priorities of tasks amongst multiple assigned projects.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously along with good organization and time management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Power BI.

  • Advanced Microsoft office skills (Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint)

LEVEL I:

Education and Experience Required:

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field

  • Up to 2 years’ experience performing data analysis.

LEVEL II:

Education and Experience Required:

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field

  • 2-3 years’ data analysis experience

Preferred:

  • Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience

LEVEL III:

Education and Experience Required:

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field.

  • 3-5 years’ data analysis experience.

  • Demonstrated research, data mining, and analytics skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate data into actionable recommendations.

  • Advanced Proficiency of business analytics software and technical tools (Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI).

  • Advanced level presentation of analysis results.

  • Ability to conduct trending and analysis to identify root causes and possible solutions.

Preferred:

  • Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience.

LEVEL IV:

Education and Experience Required:

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field

  • 5-7 years’ data analysis experience

  • Demonstrated research, data mining, and analytics skills

  • Demonstrated ability to translate data into actionable recommendations

  • Advanced Proficiency of business analytics software and technical tools (Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI)

  • Advanced level presentation of analysis results

  • Ability to conduct trending and analysis to identify root causes and possible solutions

Preferred:

  • Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience

LEVEL V:

Education and Experience Required:

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field.

  • 7 years’ data analysis experience.

  • Demonstrated research, data mining, and analytics skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate data into actionable recommendations.

  • Advanced Proficiency of business analytics software and technical tools (Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI).

  • Advanced level presentation of analysis results.

  • Proven track record of business model creation and management.

  • Provide leadership qualities to the department.

Preferred:

  • Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience
