ORTHOPEDIC MEDICAL ASSITANT - PART TIME

Southern Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Brunswick, GA

Non-Exempt, Hourly Position

Salary: $15-$18 per hour, depending on experience

Work Week: 15-20 hours; in person

JOB SUMMARY: Fast paced, multi-disciplinary orthopedic surgical practice seeking a skilled Orthopedic Medical Assistant with a positive, upbeat attitude for full time (35-40 hours per week) position. As an Orthopedic Medical Assistant, you will provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients and support the Orthopedic Surgeons in delivering exceptional medical services. Your role will involve assisting with patient examinations, preparing treatment rooms, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient records. Should be familiar with X-Rays. Candidate will be responsible for x-ray ordering, EMR documentation, patient phone calls, and working up patients for exams. Experience with DME, patient care, injections and pain patients, eClinical EMR, and provider interaction is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program, certification, or equivalent job experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and orthopedic procedures
  • Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist Orthopedic Surgeons with patient examinations by taking vital signs, recording patient information, and preparing the examination room
  • Administer injections and medications as directed by the Physicians
  • Perform routine orthopedic procedures such as casting, splinting, and wound care
  • Assist with scheduling patient appointments, tests, and surgeries
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic medical record system
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the examination rooms and equipment
  • Educate patients on post-operative care and provide instructions for home exercises
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Adhere to all patient privacy and confidentiality regulations
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proven experience as an Medical Assistant or relevant healthcare role
  • Excellent knowledge of medical procedures and terminology; orthopedic experience preferred
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to provide compassionate care to patients
  • Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Current certification/registration as a Medical Assistant is a plus!
  • CPR certification (preferred)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish goes to the top of the consideration list!

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with the public. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation, stooping and bending to files and supplies, mobility to complete tasks, standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Must possess visual and auditory acuity to communicate with co-workers, patients, and other customer groups. Possible exposure to chemical hazards. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
