ENA Nurse Residency Program at SMHC

The Emergency Department at SMHC has collaborated with the Emergency Nurses Association to offer you an emergency nursing specific residency program – Here is what you can expect:

• 18 weeks of progressive orientation
• Didactic learning
• Unit based learning with a preceptor
• Extra layers of support with unit educators and an assigned coach

This program is open to new graduate nurses, as well as, experienced RNs that are new to the emergency department.

Emergency Department

The Emergency Department of this hospital provides twenty-four hour emergency care. It is a Level III Emergency Department and has 29 treatment beds in Biddeford as well as a satellite ED location in Sanford.

Position Summary

The health care work force of the future should have the knowledge and skills to provide patient-centered, community-focused, cost-effective, clinically-effective, coordinated care. To do these things successfully, the work force must be competent, flexible, and adaptive to changes in health care delivery and technology. The Registered Nurse is responsible for performance of complex, individualized, family oriented nursing care in accordance with policies and procedures under the direct supervision of a charge/shift leader RN.
