Southern Eye Associates is Hiring an Ophthalmic Technician Near Greenville, SC

Job Description:
Primarily responsible for patient workups and documentation. The successful candidate must be a person with a compassionately approachable demeanor, have excellent interpersonal skills, and experience working with the public. Candidate must document medical history, test results, and information completely and accurately. Must be willing to travel to all locations: Greenville, Greer, Simpsonville Education and Experience: 1. High school diploma or equivalent required 2. Certification as COA, COT or COMT or willing to complete 1 year training program offered by Southern Eye Associates. (Unpaid time outside of business hours required for program work.) *Southern Eye Associates is a teaching facility. Certification is not required for application or employment as an ophthalmic assistant. Must be self-motivated with aptitude for learning many new skills in a timely manner. Job responsibilities listed below are based on trained individuals and not required for new hires. Essential Skills and Abilities: Represent the practice with compassion and professionalism Extend a warm welcome to all patients and visitors Ability to effectively triage calls from patients to ensure appropriate scheduling Excellent customer service and communication skills both verbal and written Maintain a positive, upbeat attitude and ability to work as a team member and maintain positive working relationships Ability to self-manage in a fast-paced environment Attention to detail and prioritization of patients before other work Treat patients with respect and patience, empathetic with patients’ needs and concerns Ability to resolve conflict, problem solve and make critical decisions Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA, State, and Federal regulations Proficient with computers and ability to type 60-65 wpm Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions Responsibilities: Welcome and acknowledge patients according to company standard Communicate to patients what to expect throughout the course of visit Explain each next step of the workup process Obtain and document a detailed medical history, social history and review of systems Identify reason for patient visit and document chief complaint Perform exam in compliance with patient insurance guidelines and workup protocols Perform visual acuity, pupillary function and motility testing Obtain intraocular pressure reading (Goldmann, iCare, Tonopen) Instill eye drops in a sanitary and safe way Use ophthalmic equipment to obtain automated refraction and lensometry Use ophthalmic equipment to obtain images and scan of eye anatomy and pathology Perform refractometry (phoropter and/or Epic) Maintain efficient workflow and acceptable patient workup times Identify bottlenecks in clinic and assist to reestablish good workflow Maintain sanitary and stocked exam room Anticipate and address patient needs Stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time Ensure adherence to confidentiality and quality standards Establish bond with patients Knowledgeably answer general questions about practice and offerings Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisor
Hours: Must be available between 7:00 AM-7:00 PM Monday-Thursday , Friday 7:00am -12:00pm. Opening and closing rotations may apply.'
