POSITION SUMMARY:

The YMCA's Camp Lincoln in Kingston NH is now hiring for the 2024 camp season (June-Aug)!!!!

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The lifeguard oversees all waterfront activities, including water safety, and swim tests, plans and implements waterfront programming to engage campers and foster character development and promote healthy lifestyles. Provide oversight during activity times and as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Customer service.

· Responsible for the entire operation of their program area, eg. Boating, Sports field, ropes course, archery, arts and crafts, nature, swim lessons.

· Responsible for providing feedback to counselors as it relates to their program and skill classes.

· Plans and executes an innovative, engaging and age appropriate camp program.

· Assists in an effective and fair skill class sign-up process for campers.

· Maintains a safe and clean program space – trash is picked up, equipment is checked routinely and organized, the program space is set up prior to activities beginning.

· Assists in special events each session, at the direction of the Summer Program Coordinators.

· Assists with ensuring program quality and proper execution across all program areas.

· Assists with the ordering of supplies for their program area.

· Ensures that program areas and equipment are maintained to a high standard. Communicates needs in a timely manner to the Assistant Camp Director.

· Ability to remain calm during an emergency.

· Assist in Family Nights to ensure a positive experience for our camper families.

· Builds positive relationships with campers, parents, caregivers, counselors and other program leads to leverage Camp Lincoln’s position and provide a high level experience to all.

· Provides effective and timely communication to the Summer Program Coordinators.

· Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Lead and supervise all aquatic activities at waterfront and off-camp trips as needed

· Supervise swimming activities at the waterfront and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.

· Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces waterfront rules and water safety policies.

· Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning.

· Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.

· Inspects waterfront, dock, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.

· Maintains equipment inventory.

· Fill out required check lists.

· Attends required lifeguard training.

· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Must be at least 18 years old.

· Prior experience working with children preferred.

· Familiarity with various camp activities.

· Patient and reliable.

· Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information.

· Organizational and communication skills.

· Energetic and positive personality.

· Must be able to complete YMCA required training as scheduled by management.

· Must maintain updated certifications of the job (CPR and First Aid/AED).

· Must successfully clear FBI and state criminal background checks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time

· Previous lifeguarding experience preferred.

· Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

· Ability to push, pull, bend and kneel regularly.

· Ability to travel and work multiple days/weeks at a time.

· Ability to work outdoors for entire shift, regardless of weather.
