JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary: Medical Assistants play a vital role in ensuring that healthcare facilities run smoothly. The Medical Assistant supports the clinic’s administrative and clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing examination rooms, assisting physicians with exams, and performing front-desk tasks. The Medical Assistant works under immediate supervision and report to the Clinic Manager. Medical assistants are essential to delivering high-quality patient care at Southern California Medical Center.

Essential Functions:

• Welcome patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone.
• Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, confirming purpose of visit.
• Prepare patients by directing and/or accompanying them to the exam room.
• Prepare equipment and exam rooms, and clean instruments
• Perform preliminary physical tests; take blood pressure, weight and temperature; report patient history summary.
• Communicate with patients and informing them about normal or abnormal laboratory test results as instructed by Clinic Manager.
• Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
• Maintain safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
• Complete records by recording patient examination, treatment and test results.
• Administer the billing process for patients.
• Serve and protect the physician or healthcare provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, HIPPA regulations, federal, state and local requirements and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards
• Enhance health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
• Manage inventory of medical supplies and equip exam rooms with appropriate supplies
• Traveling to other clinical sites as needed for coverage
• Working 2 Saturday per month are mandatory
• Any other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

· Medical Assistant Diploma or Certification required.

· Associate Degree preferred.

· 1-2 Years’ Experience in medical field preferred.
