The Cashier is responsible to receive and process payment for services rendered or parts/materials purchased. The Cashier records the payment amount and closes repair orders in the computer system. The Cashier must operate specific software programs to keep track of customer data such as service history, parts purchased, and/or contact information. He/She may need to calculate materials charges, repair charges, and taxes - and must understand various types of warranties. The ideal Cashier candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, a minimum of one year money-handling experience, a pleasant and helpful demeanor, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and an affinity for math. The following is a representative list of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position:
- Greet customers in a friendly and appreciative fashion
- Answer telephone inquiries and route calls quickly and efficiently
- Receive and process payment for products and services using electronic point-of-sale processing equipment
- Process credit and debit transactions, checks, and other forms of payment
- Operate system software to accurately maintain customer data
- Encourage repeat business by acknowledging the customer's purchase with gratitude
