JOB TITLE: Southern Airways Training Academy Simulator Instructor/Check Pilot
DEPARTMENT: Training
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Southern Airways Training Academy Manager, Director of Training
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Southern Airways Training Academy Simulator Instructor/Check Pilot will ensure training is standardized and to the Standards of Southern Airways. The Southern Airways Training Academy Simulator Instructor will maintain currency in flight operations, simulator operations, and ground instruction, as well as ensure the operational integrity of all training venues, devices, and aircraft. The Southern Airways Training Academy Simulator Instructor will maintain status as a Flight Instructor and Check Pilot.

The Southern Airways Training Academy Simulator Instructor/Check Pilot directly provides training to Pilots in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Southern Airways Flight Operations Manual (FOM), and Southern Airways Training Manual, in addition to all other Southern Airways Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manuals. This role conducts training and evaluation in simulators and in the aircraft to ensure Pilots have the knowledge and hands-on experience to provide our customers with a safe and reliable flight. The Southern Airways Training Academy Simulator Instructor/Check Pilot has great interpersonal and communication skills which help them facilitate proper knowledge and flight instructions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Delivers exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction in accordance with aviation regulations and Southern Airways Express training guidelines
  • Conduct pilot simulator training for new hires, upgrade and transition pilots.
  • Conduct pilot simulator check rides for new hires, upgrade and transition pilots.
  • Evaluate and measure trainee progress and recommend for qualification, or additional training
  • Complete accurate training records specific student
  • Maintain Instructor qualifications in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Enter and exit from the Simulator device via the provided ramp
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts
  • Provide mentorship to our students in a safe and comfortable environment and work together with instructors to overcome challenges in the learning process
  • Provide thorough, productive, and constructive debriefs to students after each session
  • Be an ambassador to safety by following applicable FOM procedures, attend periodic safety meetings, attend periodic training meetings and maintain a general safety mindset
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous instructor experience is strongly preferred.
  • ATP or meet the requirements of 61.153
  • 135 and/or 121 experience.
  • Knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices
  • Knowledge of common aviation regulations
  • Ability to manage classes and teach effectively.
  • Ability to concentrate and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Possess an ATP Certificate or an FAA commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating.
  • Two (2) years of FAA 121 or 135 flying experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of FAR Parts 61, 91, and 135.
  • 3500 hours of flight experience.
  • 1500 PIC hours of flight experience.
  • Previous instructor experience.
  • Previous Cessna Caravan (C208) experience.
  • Knowledge of Crew Resource Management (CRM) concepts.
  • Basic technology proficiency, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, and other internet-based programs.
  • Strong focus on quality with a continuous drive toward process improvement and student satisfaction.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen per airline regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1986.
  • The location for this position is based near Charlotte, NC.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have vision ability to view and read computer/video/flight deck displays on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to participate in the FAR-directed Line Observation Program and be able to enter and exit the aircraft under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Must be able to enter and exit the flight simulator, cabin simulator or mock-up, and briefing rooms under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Must be able to sit in the simulator uninterrupted for up to 4 hours.
  • Ability to perform work duties from a limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job.
  • Ability to make/receive audible callouts in classroom and/or simulator settings.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job.
  • Ability to converse/present/facilitate for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to move/transport 25 lbs. on an occasional basis (under 25%).
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and operate a Flight Simulator
  • Ability to manipulate applicable flight controls at full deflection.
  • Ability to pass annual flight evaluation.
