DescriptionPOSITION: ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER
REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR - SPORTS MEDICINE
NORMAL WORK AREA: SPORTSPLEX AND/OR STUDENT ACTIVITIES CENTER
Minimum Education Required
- Bachelor's degree and certified athletic trainer required; master’s degree strongly preferred in related field.
- NATA Certification Required
Excel, along with strong written and verbal communications skills. Possess the ability to be
creative and energetic while working well with post-secondary students and athletic
activities.
TRAINING TIME
Six months to one year to perform all job-related duties with minimum supervision.
Duties And Other Job Related Activities
- Oversees the medical care for student-athletes under their direct supervision, including
- Ensures that all student-athletes have completed all pre-participation documents including
- Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses to student athletes including prevention,
- Acts as a consultant to the head athletic trainer and head coach of those sports under their
- Monitors the athletic insurance coverage for the student athletes in those sports under their
- Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation, self-care implementation and overall wellness
- Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions
- Proper application of protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces.
- Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians.
- Collaborate with physicians in order to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation
- Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness in order to provide emergency or
diagnosis and treatment.
- Develop training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance.
- Conduct research and provide instruction on subject matter related to athletic training or sports
- Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and
- Inspect playing fields in order to locate any items that could injure players.
- Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, and community members in the care and
- Perform team-support duties such as laundry, maintaining equipment, and stocking supplies and
- Travel (when possible) with athletic teams for away events.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director - Sports Medicine and/or
- Exhibit a mature personal relationship with Christ and the ability to guide and direct the men and
- Work is medium demand. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Medium strength is required to position patients for examination
- May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table
