Basic Function:
The licensed practical nurse provides nursing care under the leadership and guidance of the Registered Nurse. Care provided is appropriate to the age and respective level of growth and development of the patients served on assigned unit and in accordance with required knowledge and skills.The nursing care provided is done according to nursing diagnosis, physician's orders, the patient plan of care, standards and approved policies and procedures in the best interest of patients, visitors, physicians and Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center associates. In addition to the above, the LPN, having completed an approved pharmacology course and an OBN approved IV course, may administer oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, as well as, start and maintain IV fluids and lines (as stated in Ohio State Regulations and medical center policy and procedure), rectal and topical medication to the patients on the assigned unit under the guidance of the Registered Nurse.
