HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT
The Program Director’s primary responsibility is to drive a transformative and engaging experience in areas of wellness, adult, and senior adult programming. This individual will seek out, develop, and implement programs and activities both inside our YMCA facility and in the community in accordance with the mission and purpose of the Southeastern Indiana YMCA. This individual is responsible for the initiation and implementation of these new programs, the training and supervision of necessary staff and volunteers, and the evaluation and modification of these initiatives. Also, to include preparation and execution of the wellness budget.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:
  • Program Administration: Responsible for wellness, adult, and senior adult program administration including development and implementation of a variety of programs. Programs include formal programs such as Personal Training and Group Exercise, and information programs such as Pickleball and facility usage spaces. Analyzes problems and makes decisions guided by precedent and established policy, with understanding and confidence to make solid, thoughtful, independent decisions regarding members, program participants, and community initiatives. Prepare and carry out program area budgets in coordination with supervisor. Prepare and lead wellness orientations, group exercise classes, and personal training, as needed. Initiate and coordinate with Marketing to support program growth and sustainability.
  • Staff Management & Development: Supervising daily operations related to Wellness and Program area-specific departments and facilities. Hire, train, schedule, daily supervision, and management of the Wellness Center staff, Personal Trainers, Group Exercise Instructors, and program-specific staff. Responsible for educating team members on procedures and follow-up to ensure the YMCA members are treated with courtesy, caring, respect and honesty. Train and receive Instructor Training to teach Y staff in CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  • Administrative & Operations Support: Responsible for Manager-on-Duty role which will include schedule flexibility with 1 evening per week, and weekend shifts as needed. Support Facilities Manager to evaluate fitness equipment for maintenance needs and research new equipment. Serve as a campaigner for the Annual Campaign..
  • Event Leadership: Develop, organize, lead, and evaluate various special events in coordination with other leadership team members such as Turkey Trot, adult sport tournaments and leagues, and corporate and community events. 
  • Other Duties: Assigned as necessary by the CEO.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • Bachelor's Degree in sport or recreation management, physical education, business administration, or related field; or a minimum 3-5 years equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in leading program, sport, and/or wellness programs.
  • Certifications preferred but not required, can include AFAA, ACE, NASM, or related certifications or college level coursework in fitness related degree, or a nationally recognized certifications in specialty areas preferred (i.e. YMCA Group Exercise Certification, Zumba, Spinning, etc.).
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software (Microsoft Office); Daxko membership software program experience desired, but not required.
  • Must have strong attention to detail, organization, interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations.
  • Successful completion of background check; First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications obtained within first 30 days of employment and then maintained throughout employment.

  • Prior experience working for a non-profit organization.
  • Experience in corporate sponsorship and marketing.
