Brief Summary of Position

Provides health care to patients in the hospital or office setting. Works in consultation, cooperation and coordination through a collaborative physician. Functions according to the established standards and practices of medicine for Advanced Practice Nurse/Nurse Practitioner in the State of Georgia (and Alabama)

Outpatient Responsibilities:

  • Assesses health conditions and collects patient data through use of means such as interviews, observation and elimination
  • Identifies the need for additional data collection including the need for data collection from other health providers
  • Documents findings and actions appropriately in the patient's medical record.
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physician for complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients
  • Assists in educating the patient and family members regarding medical condition, procedures, and medication and preventative measures as necessary and appropriate
  • Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions
  • Participates in various initiatives such as clinical research, clinics, weekend coverage
  • Completes unfinished weekly tasks in preparation for following week
  • Assistance and counseling to nurses on patient care and medication adjustments
  • Triage patient’s telephone calls and provides consultations and/or recommendations for appropriate treatment (to include sharing testing results with patients in a clear and effective way)
  • Performs evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations when necessary.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations and CME's
  • Performs related work as required or assigned

Inpatient Responsibilities:

  • Round on inpatient assignment(s) to include managing a patient’s overall care, prescribing medications and treatment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosing and treating chronic and acute conditions
  • Examine patients, develop differential diagnoses, prescribe treatments and document history, physical and exam findings with clear and detailed notes with the appropriate utilization of coding according to the acuity level of the patient
  • Facilitates the patient’s transition with and between healthcare settings (ex: admitting, transferring and discharging patients)
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals

Adherence to Policies/Practices:

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the organization and values of Southeastern Gastroenterology Associates, PC
  • Must continually demonstrate the safety procedures for the clinic and utilize universal precautions where appropriate
  • Must display an image of personal and professional competence, including knowledge and adherence to the philosophy of Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Must write detailed patient clinic notes in an efficient manner while highlighting the problems in descending order of priority; must provide detailed coding/billing list on each patient encounter
Requirements:

Education and Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or higher in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years work experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications are required
  • Current Georgia license for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with current certification from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, (AANP) or the American Nursing Credentialing Center, (ANCC) OR current Georgia license for Georgia State Composite Board and current certification from the American Academy of Physician's Assistants

  • Above average skills in clinical procedures are required. Understanding and ability to follow OSHA requirements and provide instruction to staff on safety hazards and precautions as necessary. Must understand general insurance protocols and applicable billing guidelines and regulations. Professional verbal and written communication skills are required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, team: members and the public. Ability for analytical and critical thinking and solid problem solving is essential.

  • Decision Making: Review situation at hand or appropriate data and make objective decisions on the issue that positively affect the organization.
  • Timeliness: Clinic and hospital rounding must be started in a timely and independent manner. Notes must also be complete/locked in a timely manner
