Position Purpose:
Peer Support Specialists assist individuals served in their recovery from substance use disorders and/or mental illness. They support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience from substance use disorders and mental illness in ways that are specific to the needs of each individual. They provide individualized person-centered services with a recovery focus. Promotes a strengths-based model and encourage the use of natural supports and enhanced community living. Assists in achieving goals and objectives set forth by the individual in their individualized treatment or recovery plan. Emphasizes the opportunity for individuals to support each other as they move forward in their recovery.
Qualifications:
Must either possess or have the ability to possess, within 30 days of hire, the Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) credential through the Missouri Credentialing Board (www.missouricb.com). A Missouri Class E Driver’s License may be required. Certification in CPR/First Aid is required upon hiring or can be obtained shortly after hiring.
Must pass background check provided for the agency by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Family Care Safety Registry which includes the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health and Department of Health and Senior Services. Must not be on any “do not hire” list with the Department of Mental Health or the Missouri Division of Family Services. Must have reliable transportation.
