We are SEMRHI, a network of Community Health Centers that has been in Southeast Mississippi for almost 45 years. We serve the health care needs of Rural Mississippi. Come be a part of the Team working with the local communities of Southeast Mississippi and their community members.

Job Summary:

Working under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager, The Community Health Worker is responsible for making public presentations, developing initiatives for community infiltration, and providing information on available health services. Represent SeMRHI on local and/or state level committees concerning Health Activities and at local health fairs and community events. The Community Health Worker must be able to work with other organizations and agencies to organize projects to promote SeMRHI and services offered. The Community Health Worker demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with staff, patients, families and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates positive personal attributes such as honesty, integrity and professionalism in all aspects of the job
  • Acts as organizational relationship liaison and advisor to SeMRHI clinics and the communities we serve
  • Plans, develops, and implements outreach activities
  • Serve as marketing support person through public relations events
  • Prepares and distributes flyers, brochures, or other informational or educational documents to inform members of a targeted community
  • Refer community members to needed health services
  • Attend community meetings or health fairs to understand community issues or build relationships with community members
  • Identify the particular health care needs of individuals in a community or target area
  • Collect information from individuals to compile vital statistics about the general health of community members
  • Maintain relationships with local businesses in efforts to educate the community on SeMRHI services
  • Communicates effectively with the Chief Operations Officer in the scheduling of speaking engagements and community presentations
  • Represent SeMRHI on local and/or state level committees as requested by Administration
  • Institutes and maintains an effective quality communication program for MySeMRHI
  • Prepares reports on a regular basis, and as requested to keep the COO and other assigned staff informed
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
  • Verify timecard at the end of each pay period.
  • Performs related work, as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED, required
  • Some college coursework or related experience, preferred.
  • Experience in health education/promotion or marketing
  • Must be willing to do travel locally
  • Excel, MS Office and typing skills required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including preparing reports, correspondence, and other documentation
  • Ability to handle on-demand requests and deadline pressure
  • Ability to work without supervision while handling workload

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Continuously listen, visualize, and have dexterity and eye-hand coordination
  • Frequently sit, squat, reach, use both right and left forearm rotation, walk and stand
  • Occasionally kneel, twist, have ability to grasp firmly, lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 10 lbs.
