SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium is Hiring a HEALTH EDUCATOR I Near Klawock, AK

Job Overview:

Assists in planning and implementing evidence-based and promising health education strategies, interventions, and programs as well as serves as a health education resource

Salary: - $21.29-$24.36 per hour, DOE

Responsibilities:

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

  • Addresses injury prevention and/or chronic disease risk factors in group settings per grant funding guidance.
  • Services align with specific grant objectives, may be provided to individuals, small groups, and communities in the SEARHC region, and may include presentations to larger groups of community members and/or Tribal leaders.
  • Partners with existing Health Promotion and community programs to locally recruit and provide evidence-based and promising prevention interventions per grant guidelines.
  • Communicates and advocates for health and health policies in the local community.
  • Provides monthly reports and conducts evaluation activities as requested.
  • Provides biometric screening and patient coaching if required by grant funding.

Qualifications:

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Health, School Health, Health Sciences or in a related field
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license

Experience Required

  • Four years of progressively responsible, relevant, health promotion or related experience (paid or volunteer) if no degree; one year if degreed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Health education strategies, interventions, and programs that are culturally sensitive and evidence based
  • Public health communication theories that foster change ranging from individual to population levels
  • The appropriate use of fitness equipment
  • Brief motivational interviewing/coaching techniques

Skills in:

  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Delivering effective health education strategies, interventions and programs
  • Time Management and organization

Ability to:

  • Be non-judgmental while coaching a client with their health goals
  • Incorporate demographically and culturally sensitive health education techniques when promoting programs
  • Work independently

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Other SEARHC provided computer applications

Other Qualifications:

  •  Must be a non-smoker

Travel Required:

  • Travel expected.

Safety and Risk Management Responsibilities:

  • Employees are responsible for complying with safe work rules; reporting all accidents and injuries immediately; cooperating in all accident and injury investigations; reporting defective equipment and unsafe conditions.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The setting for this role will include office and healthcare settings. Exposure to controlled temperature environments, both hot and cold, is to be expected.
  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment – For example, receptionists accounting or insurance staff or others who may, as a part of their duties, be asked to help in clean up, instrument recirculation, laboratory or other similar procedures where exposure may result.
