General Statement of Job:
This position will assist the Bursar in providing leadership in the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of all functions, processes and systems relating to student-related financial transactions, including the Student Information and Finance/Accounting system (BANNER), payment and refund processing (TOUCHNET), and reconciliation of Bursar department accounts. This position requires independent problem-solving, creative thinking, attention to detail, and excellent diplomacy skills in working with students, parents, and administration.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a liaison between Cashier/Bursar Office and other college divisions / departments, and facilitate special requests, resolve workflow or production issues.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of Bursars office staff, including monitoring staff turnover, productivity, and overall performance to ensure adequate staffing and performance that meets the department standards.
- Oversee registration process, including scheduling staff as needed, updating tuition tables, updating monthly production calendar.
- Ensure integrity of student accounts data for external reporting to the State and prepare and review forms for Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
- Review and approve monthly journal entries, board and management reports, tuition tables, and assist with internal and external audits.
- Oversee timely and accurate refunding of tuition and fees process in accordance with state and college refunding policies.
- Maintain and update red flag rules, ensure proper internal controls to safeguard all assets in the Cashier/Bursar office, and keep Colleges policies and procedures up to date according to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Exercise judgment and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results within the department.
- Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
1. Bachelors degree in Accounting required or related field.2. At least five (5) years of Accounting experience required.3. Experience in a higher education institution or Bursar Office, preferred.4. At least three (3) years of supervisor experience preferred.

- Security Sensitive position: all applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
- In addition, subject to a federal background check.
- Must have or qualify for a valid Texas drivers license and proof of liability insurance.
- Fraud Certification, preferred.
