South Texas College of Law Houston is Hiring an Accounting and Finance Intern Near Houston, TX

SUMMARY Unlock your potential as an Accounting and Finance Intern with South Texas College of Law. We invite creative and ambitious finance students or recent graduates to join our team and immerse themselves in a dynamic environment. As an Accounting and Finance Intern, you will play a vital role in contributing to understand the cornerstone of a trial balance, reconciliation and audit preparation, journal entry, accounts receivables, and procure to pay 3-way match model allowing you to shape your career while making a meaningful impact.

The Finance Intern receives general direction and administrative supervision from the Vice President of Finance and Administration and CFO but would work under the direct supervision of the direct reports of the VP/CFO. The position is a member of the Finance and Administration Department and subject to the laws and regulations of the Fair Labor Standards Act as an hourly, non-exempt, intern employee. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefits eligible, student internship position. The expected time commitment is 20-25 hours per week during normal office hours (Monday – Friday from 9:00am – 5:30pm).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Understanding the importance of a trial balance and GL data:

Structure setup of the chart of accounts and dissecting GL data for analysis on accounts.

Participate in month-end and conduction POC accounting, gaining exposure to real-world financial scenarios.

Working with ERP system (Banner).

Administrative Financial Support:

Execute schedules to support monthly reconciliations.

Understanding the foundation for Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivable.

Procure to pay model development.

Journal entry and payable entry.

Contribute to the preparation of internal and external financial documents.

Audit and Compliance:

Support audit processes, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and company policies.

Collaborate with the finance and accounting team to maintain accurate and organized financial records.

Data Management:

Manage and organize financial data using relevant tools and software.

Ensure the confidentiality and security of sensitive financial information.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Currently enrolled in an accredited university program, majoring in finance, accounting, or a related field.

Entry-level finance knowledge, with a passion for learning and growing within the industry.

Administrative support experience, showcasing organizational and task management skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficient in both spoken and written English. Ability to interpret and explain complex data. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to students and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic to intermediate math essential.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Intern to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the intern is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The Intern is regularly required to stand and walk. Ability to lift up to 20lbs. is required. Lifting from floor level, at waist, and above shoulders required. Infrequent bending and stooping are necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread; and distance vision in order to recognize and assist visitors to the department.
