SOUTH SHORE YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION is Hiring a Director Day Camp Near Quincy, MA

The Camp Director is in charge of the overall supervision of a day camp located at the South Shore YMCA. The Director is responsible for staff supervision and all administrative work relating to on-site tasks. The Camp Director is responsible for being actively involved in overall planning, on-site implementation of the program and is responsible for being actively involved in the hiring process, staff training, and overall camp planning.

Reports to VP of Camping Services, and Branch Executive Director.

CORE EXPECTATIONS:

  • PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establish and implement a camp program schedule. Develop interesting and creative group activities that are age- appropriate.

  • STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

Recruits, hires, trains, manages, develops, coaches, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Conducts safety, certification, and service training for staff.

  • FAMILY ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

Builds relationships with and among participant families, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new participants, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause.

  • PAYROLL MANAGEMENT

Ensures staff payroll is submitted accurately and on-time

  • FACILITY MANAGEMENT

Works with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive. Maintains all camp supplies and equipment in good order.

  • VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.

  • COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT

Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.

Results Oriented Provides guidance for launching programs and framework for making decisions. Develops plans and manages best practices through team engagement and holds staff accountable for high quality results. Effectively manages budgets and cultivates relationships to support fundraising.

Personal Development Effectively addresses sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Facilitate change and models adaptability and awareness of its impact.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, education or related field

  • At least 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Skill in leading a variety of traditional day camp activities.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills

  • A commitment to working with children and adults from a variety of backgrounds.

  • Certification in First Aid and CPR desirable.
