Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Investigates and analyzes any of a variety of problems or conditions and provides or recommends ways of dealing with them.
2. Establishes personal contacts with a variety of officials, managers, professionals, or executives of the Hospital and outside organizations.
3. Negotiate agreements for the Hospital with contractors where work proposals are needed.
4. Must have knowledge and skills that relate to the facility, systems, and equipment within the hospital.
5. Responsible for construction projects that must be accomplished to support the hospital’s mission.
6. Must have knowledge of the effect the design or operation of equipment may have on the facility regarding economy, efficiency, and the safety of the systems involved.
7. Must have the knowledge and ability to modify standard practices and adapt equipment or techniques to solve a variety of engineering problems.
8. Monitors, instructs, and oversees projects or assignments that are given to the Stationary Engineers.
9. Prepares department budgets. Approves orders for equipment and supplies, as authorized. Purchases are made on a competitive bid basis.
10. Establishes and administers preventive maintenance program. Analyze costs and work schedules, set priorities, expedite operations and repairs.
11. Periodically inspects buildings and utility systems to determine the need for alterations and repairs. Approves contracted work. Accompanies appropriate state and local authorities inspecting buildings and utility systems. Must have knowledge of local, state, and national codes.
12. Responsible for departmental personnel matters pertaining to the employment, training, termination, and grievances of employees.
13. Repairs and maintains all boilers, chillers, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment.
14. Implements all maintenance and general procurement of materials and parts and conducts evaluation of completed assignments.
15. Operates, maintains, and repairs all components of the HVAC systems within the Hospital.
16. Operates high- and low-pressure boilers, steam, and hot water hospital heating equipment, as well as ventilation and air conditioning machinery.
17. Operates, maintains, and repairs emergency power systems which includes generators, fire pumps, battery banks, and alternate fuel sources for boiler operation and emergency lighting equipment.
18. Handles all emergencies to ensure responsible backup in taking corrective action in a safe and efficient manner.
19. Other duties as assigned.
