South Puget Sound Community College is Hiring an Automotive Adjunct Professor Near Olympia, WA

Adjunct faculty salary for the 2023-2024 fiscal year is $1,068.00- $1,090.00 per credit hour as listed in the CBA(Download PDF reader). 
South Puget Sound Community College seeks candidates for a part-time/adjunct position to teach evening courses in the Automotive Department. This position will begin effective September 18th, 2023.
The instructor should be able to teach and guide students in the diagnosis and repair of passenger car and light trucks in both lecture and lab settings. Again, teaching assignments will be during the evening. This recruitment is open to all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications stated below. Applications received by the closing date will be used to create an applicant pool that may be used to fill similar vacancies at the College which may occur over the next 6-9 months.

  • Use a wide range of learning resources, tools, and technologies to improve access and student success in higher education.
  • Serve on committees that support the shared governance of the college.
  • Remain current with automotive trends, breakthroughs, and incorporate into the curriculum
  • Possess knowledge to perform a high skill level to all 8 automotive service and repair areas
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking. 
  • Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree related to Automotive Technology orthree (3) years of recent industry experience in automotive technology
  • Successful applicant will be required to obtain current ASE Certification within 90 days of hire, including:
    1. ASE A6 - Electrical/Electronic Systems Certification.
    2. ASE G1 – Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification
  • Ability to work evening schedule
  • Ability to provide and teach automotive skills, automotive theory, and operations and maintenance of automotive equipment in a structured lecture and lab environment
  • A Washington State Professional Technical Vocational Certificate or ability to become vocationally certificated, which requires at least two years of applicable experience within the last five years.
  • Demonstrated experience designing contemporary curriculum.
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASE-Certified Master Automobile Technician status
  • ASE L1 Certification
  • Experience successfully instructing adult learners such as industry workers or students
  • 5 years recent industry experience
  • Evidence of teaching excellence
  • Ability to establish community and industry connections, particularly as they relate to students educational experience
  • Evidence of innovative and diverse teaching methods, and technologies, to support teaching and learning in a dynamic educational environment
  • A commitment and ability to work effectively with students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, including a wide range of student preparedness and physical abilities
  • Experience in the academic advising of students, with knowledge of transfer and AA programs
