The Lead RiderCoach/Adjunct Instructor – Motorcycle Safety provides quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals in the North Carolina Motorcycle Safety Education Program (NCMSEP) courses offered within Applied Technical Programs.
Essential Duties Summary
  • Prepare the annual training schedule, in cooperation with the site coordinator.
  • Ensure qualified coaches are available to teach scheduled classes.
  • Perform minor and routine maintenance on motorcycles, and ensure the fleet is kept in good mechanical condition.
  • Keep a current inventory of motorcycles, and provide a copy of the inventory to the state office whenever changes occur.
  • Coordinate with NCMSEP Range and Equipment Manager to layout and paint new ranges.
  • Ensure that cone placements and markings are visible and accurate for all courses conducted on their range(s).
  • Maintain close relationship with motorcycle dealers in the area. When possible, coordinate with the range and equipment manager to arrange for dealer loaner motorcycles to be placed in the program. Arrange for the pick-up and return of these bikes at the beginning and end of the loan period.
  • Serve as a role model for program instructors, ensuring that they know the curriculum and are offering it correctly and consistently.
  • Prepare driving range and motorcycles as needed.
  • Create classroom activities and learning environments that meet the needs of all learners, including high school students, adult learners, and senior populations.
  • Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to SPCC as a learning-centered college through the College’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes, and delivery of instruction and services
  • Develop learning strategies and curriculum that will promote successful teaching and learning in a learning-centered environment
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position
  • Facilitate learning through classroom activities, distance learning experiences, workforce development, and out-of-classroom activities
  • Stay current with developments in the field of technology and learning theory
  • Accept teaching assignments, based on the needs of the college, at one or more of the following: L.L. Polk campus (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway campus (Monroe), in high school and community locations (Anson and/or Union counties), or in a corrections setting (Anson county)
  • Accept teaching assignments scheduled during the day, evening, weekends, or online
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the dean, or the Vice President
Required Qualifications
  • An earned High School Diploma
  • Currently valid NCMSEP certification at the BRC/BRC2 level.
  • Currently listed on the NCMSEP approved instructor list.
Two or more years of experience teaching one or more of the following NCMSEP courses:
Basic Rider Course (BRC)
Basic Rider Course 2 (BRC2)
Advanced Rider Course (ARC)
3-Wheel Basic Rider Course (3WBRC)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of the equivalent of one academic year of full-time teaching experience at the community college level
  • Familiarity with a course management such as Canvas
  • Evidence of effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Evidence of a career that includes a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle high-pressure environments
  • Evidence of a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth
