South Pasadena Unified School District is Hiring a Substitute Instructional Assistant, Special Education On-Call Near South Pasadena, CA

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Under general supervision, to perform a variety of instructional duties and activities designed to free the instructor from routine work related to the educational program; to assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences; to perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and to do other related work as required.

EDUCATION: At least two (2) years of education at the junior college level.

EXPERIENCE: One year of paid or volunteer experience working with multi-age groups of children. Training or course work in child growth and development, instructional technology, or a closely related field is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics; student behavior management strategies and techniques; appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, grammar; basic mathematical concepts; basic operating knowledge of standard office equipment, including computers and technology; routine record management, storage and retrieval systems and procedures.

ABILITIES/SKILLS: Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude towards students of varied age groups; motivate students; communicate effectively in oral and written form in English; perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office-related machines and equipment; learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment; be empathetic when working with students having special needs when mainstreamed or placed in the classroom; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.

OTHER: Passing grade on the State required Instructional Aide Proficiency Test. Person performing service in this position classification may exert 20 to 50 pounds of force to lift carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
