Qualifications:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director (Special Education) supports the Executive Director (Special Education) in the
responsibility for the special education and related services across the districts served by the
Cooperative. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Associate Director implements
systems of leadership, support, and guidance for school and district personnel so that educational
programs for students with disabilities are implemented in compliance with IDEA and related federal
and state laws, rules and regulations. The Associate Director will provide assistance in the coordination
of and preparation for due process hearings and/or mediations, resolution meetings, and services with
alternative education programs. The Associate Director will possess the desire to increase leadership
responsibilities in order to be considered to lead the Cooperative in the future.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION:
Director of Exceptional Learners licensure preferred.
appropriate certification that allows for supervisory roles over Special Education programs.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
issues related to programming and services for students with disabilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of IDEA, Article 7 (Indiana Special Education Rules) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation
Act.
Work on behalf of Harrison County Exceptional Learners Cooperative to respond to parent
complaints, seek legal advice and facilitate mediation and/or due process procedures.
Coordinate efforts of the special education staff in the areas of compliance, regulation requirements
and mandated timelines.
Analyze student and staff data, develop proposals, and recommendations to improve student
achievement and outcomes.
Ability to work with special education personnel to analyze data and evaluate program services for
students with disabilities
Assist building administration with resolving issues and needs pertaining to students, parents, IEPs,
etc.
Attend IEP meetings when necessary or as is appropriate.
Assist in day to day management of issues and provide direction for appropriate resolution.
Ability to develop and implement trainings for District Staff
Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and the public from diverse cultural, social,
economic, and educational backgrounds.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas
and experience.
Excellent problem solving, planning, and organizational skills.
Computer proficiency in Google Workspace as well as software applications relevant to area of
responsibility.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within
established timeframes.
Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person work environments.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Exceptional Learners.
