POSITION SUMMARY
The Lieutenant Paramedic is a core member of the department’s frontline leadership team working closely with the Captain Paramedic during their assigned shift. The Lieutenant Paramedic responds to calls for service, providing assessment, treatment modalities, and transportation of patients in a variety of controlled and uncontrolled settings. Provides treatment interventions and advanced life support consistent with department guidelines and according to credentials issued by state authorities. Provides emergency care and rescue in a variety of situations where personal safety may be at risk. May be needed to assist with the continuum of care in transferring of patients from one setting to another. Attend required training and certification programs, maintaining certain certifications as required by the department or Medical Director. First-line supervision of EMS providers in the field. Assists/Serves as back up to the EMS Captain with coordination of clinical response and operational activities during the shift. May be assigned other tasks relating to EMS operations as necessary. Responsible for additional duties to include: assuring equipment is operational and present on all ambulances, assisting with supply inventory, identifying “in the field” needs, finding resolution to issues and/or reporting issues to the EMS Captain responsible for the shift. This position is assigned a regular ambulance shift unless filling in as the EMS Captain.

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION
Physical working conditions mostly uncontrolled. Must be able to work and make decisions in adverse climates and situations. Probable exposure to personal safety and health risks. High level of stress. Physical abilities include lifting, bending, pushing and pulling without limitations. Must be able, with assistance, to lift and carry a 100-pound stretcher, with patient on board, using proper techniques to prevent injuries to self, co-worker and patient. Must be able to care equipment and travel on foot for several hundred yards. May be required to perform duties for extended periods of time in critical situations. Intensive mental effort required. May be required to make quick decisions and judgments during extreme situations.
