Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision assist in the performance of journeyman level duties in construction, remodeling, and maintenance of buildings, and property used by employees and the general public of the State of South Carolina.
Performs skilled labor to include : framing, floor systems, roof structures, stair ways, trim / finish work, cabinets, etc.
in building renovations, building maintenance, and new construction. Safely operates all carpentry equipment necessary to construct complex renovation and new construction projects.
Utilizes appropriate PPE for designated work scopes. Assists supervision with providing material quantities, type, application for the designated work scope.
Assists supervision with coordinating with contractors. Assists supervision with the installation and repair of electrical circuits to include : installation of lighting, equipment, conduit, electrical panels, switches, breakers, receptacles, junction boxes, etc.
Installs commercial doors and hardware including steel door frames, steel and wood doors, lite-kits, door closers and exit devices in accordance with ADA requirements.
Performs all types of interior and exterior wall and floor coating operations, to include : hanging and finishing sheetrock, application of exterior stucco finishes, painting, applying floor coatings including vinyl and ceramic tile, carpet and epoxy floor coatings.
Cleans jobsite as necessary to keep in a safe condition and acceptable appearance. This includes sweeping, vacuuming, disposing of waste building materials, mopping and buffing floors, washing windows, etc.
Operates various equipment related to work scope to include : lifts, saws, loaders, compactors, etc. Maintains water and sewage distribution systems including all plumbing related issues found in building maintenance, building renovations, new construction and emergency maintenance.
Assists with design, diagnosis, trouble shooting, repairing and installation of plumbing fixtures, devices and equipment.
Forms, place and finish concrete footers, slabs, sidewalks, stairs, handicap ramps, and other facility concrete. Procures project materials, tools, supplies, and services in strict adherence to State and Departmental procurement policies.
Works after hours during inclement weather and emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Six (6) months of trades experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Relevant education may substitute for the experience requirement.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and / or other departmental-related emergencies.
