South Bay Animal Hospital & Emergency is a beautiful, state of the art, progressive, veterinary hospital in San Jose, California. We provide 24-hour veterinary care for dogs and cats with services such as wellness and preventative care, emergency and critical care, surgery, neurology, oncology, cardiology, rehabilitation, and more.

As a Practice Manager at South Bay Animal Hospital your responsibilities as a manager are essential. However, it's also important to work side by side with the owner to think outside the box and to continue South Bay on it's path to greatness.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervises all staff including paraprofessional and professional staff
  • Responsible for all basic human resource duties including onboarding, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, terminations, and coaching and training for all positions; maintenance of personnel records including attendance and wage records
  • Directs, supports, and oversees all Supervisor and Lead positions
  • Manages and/or oversees all staff scheduling including DVM schedules
  • Helps create, achieves, and maintains all financial goals for the practice
  • Ensures daily, quarterly, and annual financial information is accurate and is responsible for all local accounting functions
  • Oversees all inventory management including purchasing of all administrative, medical, and equipment supplies
  • Oversees all controlled substance purchase, inventory in line with California and federal laws
  • Oversees all equipment management and ensures all equipment is in good, working order
  • Creates and upholds all Hospital policies and protocols
  • Oversees and Upholds all safety and OSHA regulations
  • Oversees daily operations and ensure all operations are working as efficiently as possible without sacrificing safety or quality of care
  • Assessing and implement training programs for each department and constant re-evaluation of training protocols to remove or alter obsolete practices.
  • Maintain client relationships and hospital reputation by ensuring communication best practices and responding to client concerns or complaints in a timely manner.
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors and outside contractors
  • Maintain the overall health of the business
Requirements:
  • Experience managing a 24-hour and/or multi-department facility required. Management of a veterinary hospital preferred (3 years)
  • Current Registered Veterinary Technician License preferred, but not required
  • Education (Bachelor's preferred) in management, business, or other related field preferred
  • Ability to work 40 hours a week, some weekends and evenings or early mornings are required. Some Holidays may be required.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
  • Excellent attention to detail in all matters
  • Ability to multi-task frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs, sit/stand/walk/crouch for long periods of time, and physical and mental ability to perform tasks associated with the care of animals
  • Proficient in basic computer and office equipment use including PCs and Macs, scanners, multi-line phones, etc.
  • Ability to recommend solutions and respond to concerns rather than rule with an iron fist and react to problems.
