Assists nursing service personnel throughout all patient care areas within the facility with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. Assists with personal hygiene, vital signs, patient mobilization, and changes bed linens. May serve and collect food trays, provide for between-meal nourishment, and clean, sterilize, store and prepare other supplies. In addition to bedside patient care the Flex Unit Assistant is also capable of working as the monitor tech for telemetry & emergency services. Provides the nurses and physicians with precise analysis of cardiac rhythms through oral communication and written documentation. Detects abnormal pattern variances and notifies the charge and primary nurse immediately.

Demonstrates a positive team player attitude in all areas of the hospital. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Typically reports to a registered nurse or supervisor. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, infection control practices, and procedures within patient care. Requirements:

• High School diploma or its equivalent
• 1 year experience as a patient care tech and/or monitor technician is preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology (cardiac) required.
• Previous telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience preferred.
• Basic EKG course within 90 days of hire
• Computer experience with data entry and related secretarial experience strongly preferred.
• Rhythm knowledge, ability to document rhythms, close communication with staff and physicians about changes in cardiac rhythms required.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and phone etiquette. Must be well organized and detail oriented with the ability to work independently and under pressure
• Ability to work effectively within a team
• Basic computer key board skills and general PC knowledge
• BLS Required

Experience

• 1 year experience as a patient care tech and/or monitor technician is preferred

• High School or better

• C-AHA BLS Basic Cardiac
