As a Meat Buyer your responsibilities will include placing purchasing orders with vendors, negotiating lowest possible prices and communicating with internal and external customers daily. Scheduling of shipments to ensure product quantities meet companies demands by making buying decisions daily.This position will provide an excellent opportunity for self-motivated, flexible individual who will enjoy a challenging and diverse job. - Must have direct knowledge of meat product information such as the various cuts & its safety handling.
- Purchase of meat products for region and any specialty items needed.
- Ability to determine how to work with inflation/ deflation cycles, inventory experience, and knowledge of pricing.
- Analyze and monitor sales records, trends and economic conditions to forecast consumer-buying patterns and determine inventory needs.
- Setting and adjusting selling prices, managing product inventory and completing inventory and profit reports.
- Establish and adjust selling prices by monitoring costs, competitive factors and supply and demand, while also working with sales staff to obtain information about customer specific needs and preferences.
- Examine, select, order and purchase products at the most favorable price, consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other established factors.
- Responsible for the management of perishable inventory purchased by daily review of sales, inventory adjustments and inventory quantities.
- Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly inventory and profit reports.
- Minimum 2 years of meat buying /purchasing experience.
- Degree not required, but equivalent work experience in retail or wholesale environment preferred.
- Possess the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Possess the ability to calculate demand for inventory.
- Understand billing systems to monitor daily product movement.
- Ability to understand shipments of freight and work with sourcing manager to send out orders timely.
- Ability to limit perishable products that would need to be salvaged and sell off.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with strong relationship building skills.
- Knowledge of the meat industry and its distribution.
- Provide professional appearance and provide positive company image.
- Ability to travel on occasion to cover the regional territory.
- Strong PC skills, Microsoft Office Suite with Excellent spreadsheet management skills.
- Possess a valid driver’s license as this position requires regional & overnight travel.
- Must be currently authorized to work in the USA without the need for a visa sponsorship now or in the future.
