SoundWaters, a nonprofit education organization based in Stamford, CT, is accepting applications for Part-time
Environmental Educators.
SoundWaters, founded in 1989, is the premiere environmental education organization focused on the protection
of Long Island Sound and its watershed. SoundWaters works in partnership with individuals, schools,
communities, businesses, civic organizations, and other environmental and educational organizations to develop
experiences that foster a sense of responsibility and encourage actions that ensure the sustainable future of Long
Island Sound ecosystem.
SoundWaters is currently seeking dynamic instructors with a background in the sciences and familiarity with
non-traditional education to augment our outstanding team of Educators during our fall teaching season.
Educators are responsible for leading marine science and coastal ecology programs for pre-school, elementary
and middle school students form a variety of backgrounds. SoundWaters programs are conducted outdoors and
indoors and are highly experiential. The Part-time Educator will lead their own group of up to 30 students in a
variety of activities. SoundWaters will train and mentor the right candidate.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver an effective educational experience for students ranging from preschool to high school.
• Conduct programs in the classroom, lab, and field that focus on local marine ecology and watershed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or credits toward a Bachelor’s in science, education, or related field, or equivalent

• Background in marine/environmental science.
• Some teaching experience with young people.
• Confident teaching and managing groups of up to 30 students.
• Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
• Outstanding organizational, safety and communication skills.
• Enjoys being active all day and working outside in all conditions.
• Comfortable working with and handling marine species.
• Exceptionally reliable and follows through on commitments.

Salary:
$20/hour, commensurate with experience.
