Overview

Sound is looking for our next Director of Child, Youth and Family Services for our agency.

The Director of Child, Youth and Family Services will lead the re-development of Sound’s vision for services to Children, Youth and Families, expanding both the number of <21 clients and the breath of our service array. The Director of Child and Family Services is responsible for oversight, ongoing development and effective operations of services to Children, Youth and Families at Sound. This department provides a broad range of services to clients between the ages of birth and 21; the vast majority of clients are Medicaid recipients funded through KCICN and/or managed care organizations. The Director will provide clinical vision, leadership and oversight of services, lead program development, interagency and cross system collaboration, and program evaluation. This position will have direct oversight of the WISe teams, and will partner with Regional Directors to implement the vision for children, youth and families agencywide.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement a cohesive vision and service delivery system for children, youth and families served by Sound.
  • Responsible for the overall management and administration of services, including budget for WISe
  • Responsible for program development and contract negotiations and the necessary contractual reporting.
  • Responsible to partner with the Regional Directors to implement the vision for Children, Youth and families at Sound.
  • Responsible for personnel management of the WISe teams to include hiring, training and supervising managers and staff, and terminating as necessary, to provide effective behavioral health treatment to clients in program.
  • Provide ongoing clinical and administrative supervision to WISe program staff. Lead team meetings and participate in the management team meetings.
  • Ensure delivery of quality clinical work in the program. Oversee treatment planning to ensure services result in the accomplishment of identified both client specific and systemic outcomes
  • Partner with Quality to provide on-going review and drive continuous quality improvement related to clinical documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely disposition of all clients appropriate for outpatient level of care.
  • Assume primary responsibility for the Department’s ability to meet all legislative, WAC and County guidelines.
  • Develop, uphold and assist to develop as necessary, agency policies and procedures to maintain quality care for children, youth and families.
  • Promote effective use of program consultations and training.
  • Develop and implement consultative services to other agencies as appropriate.
  • Initiate, conduct and/or participate in research projects as appropriate.
  • Maintain inter-agency and intra-team collaboration.
  • Relate effectively with county, state and federal government bodies regarding children’s mental health issues.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working agreements with other agencies and systems.
  • Synthesize and demonstrate recovery concepts in my work at SMH
  • Perform other duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises WISe Supervisors; indirectly supervises program staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include clinical supervision, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires MSW or Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or other social services field with 5 years manager level experience with clients with mental and/or behavioral disorders.
  • Direct experience with Medicaid recipients and underserved communities is required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated skills in program development and implementation.
  • Extensive knowledge of and relationships with child serving systems.
  • Knowledge of community mental health systems, community corrections and drug/alcohol systems and resources within King County is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work with independently and with cross-functional partners, both internal and external.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must be able to obtain a WA State Agency Affiliated Counselor credential within the first 60 days of hire.
  • Mental Health Professional status required. 
  • State licensure (as LMHC, LICSW or LMFT) preferred. 
  • Must pass a criminal background check. 
  • Must have WA state driver’s license and insurable driving record as well as reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSTo successfully perform the essential duties of this position, an individual must be able to sit at a desk for four or more hours a day and use office equipment, including phones and computer keyboards, for four or more hours per day. Individuals must be able to engage vendors, team members, clients, and others over the phone and in person by voice. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
