I’m the program medical director for the post-acute program in Northern Lower Michigan. I have been a part of Sound for four years. I’m proud of the post-acute practice we have built and welcome interest from family medicine or internal medicine physicians desiring a career change and seeking a leadership position. I’d like to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:

People

• We are a closely-knit, established team of four physicians and nine advanced practice providers, with a post-acute coordinator. Each facility has a site medical director/attending physician and an advanced practice provider.
• Our team has close ties to the communities that we serve. Whether they are native to the area or had rotations/vacations in the area, each provider wants to live in northern Michigan and give back to the community.
• We strive to collaborate with the facility staff to provide the highest level of care, minimizing hospitalizations and maximizing quality of life for those residents most in need. We take an approach of primary prevention to reduce disease progression and complications, yielding a healthier and more enjoyable life.
• Our providers capitalize on the great outdoors of northern lower Michigan. Highlighting an outstanding work-life balance, they participate in local cuisine, local attractions, marine activities, vineyards/breweries, various summer sports (swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, pickle ball, hiking), local festivals, winter sports (skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing), and many more that the area offers.

Practice

• We are seeking a post-acute medical director for our Boulder Park and Villa at the Bay facilities in Petoskey. As a full-time physician, you provide post-acute – long-term care coverage for these two facilities.
• We provide coverage for over 20 facilities in northern lower Michigan. We work a Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm schedule at our facilities. A site Medical Director also acts as an attending physician and an APP at each site. We perform intake H&Ps, formulate and order appropriate treatment plans, and interface with facilities nursing and ancillary staff, patients, and families. You will collaborate with and oversee APPs who perform routine, periodic, and as-needed visits.
• There is shared on-call amongst all clinicians for all the facilities in the evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• For those who like to teach, we work with APPs from various programs.
• The group convenes bimonthly for team meetings with intermittent informal social gatherings.
