We are currently seeking strong School Floaters at our Kirkwood and Decatur, locations to work with children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.

We offer infants through preschool care, private pre-K and school age programs, as well as after-school, summer camp and specialty camps. We provide a low teacher to student ratio with a unique, nature-based, permaculture-inspired curriculum.

Educator to Student Ratios:

  • Infants - 1:6
  • Toddlers - 1:8
  • Pre-School - 1:15

Job Description:

We are looking for School Floaters to provide a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program for young children, both in groups and individually, as appropriate to the needs of children and the subject matter.

The School Floater, under the administration of the Site Director and direct supervision of the Lead Teacher, fosters a culture of collaboration and will provide support to the classrooms in accordance with the philosophy, goals and curricular plan of SoulShine Schools. The School Floater is responsible for providing support to a teaching team within SoulShine’s preschool program to ensure a safe and consistent developmentally appropriate environment for children.

The School Floater takes direction from and provides support to the lead teacher to keep the classroom running smoothly. We encourage learning through problem-solving, questioning, and experimenting. Nurture children, provide vegetarian farm-to-table meals and purees, crafts, and instruction, and ensure students and the environment are kept clean and safe. Program delivery should comply with all relevant legislation, BFTS and SoulShine policies and procedures, as well as demonstrate SoulShine’s unique value set.

We seek candidates who possess the characteristics that cannot be taught:

Present, compassionate, mindful, patient, responsible, supportive, dependable, kind, gentle, nurturing, committed to the wellness and growth of children. Must have a passion for education and a reverence for the global community.

The qualifications we are seeking are:

  • Meet and exceed all state Child Care Licensing requirements
  • Previous experience in childcare, teaching, or other related fields
  • Possess a teamwork mindset, strong communication skills, organization skills and problem-solving ability
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Maintain current Pediatric CPR & First Aid Certification
  • Minimum of six months of professional experience working in early childhood education
  • Maintain a satisfactory background check on file
  • Must have a passion for children, education and a reverence for the global community
