Food Truck Chef
Seeking an experienced cook to help run operations on Soul & Smoke’s award-winning food trucks. We have two food trucks, which operate at public and private events around Chicago and the North Shore. Schedule fluctuates based on our event schedule. Full-time, nights and weekends are required. We work a lot of summer festivals and concerts. We work hard but it’s a fun way to spend the summer/fall. Ability to stay past food truck season in our soon-to-open Evanston restaurant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward other employees & customers at all times
Attend operations meeting to discuss upcoming events
Keep trucks clean, organized and stocked
Drive and operate food trucks and lead truck maintenance and upkeep
Keep a safe work environment and uphold food safety standards
Review food truck event worksheets to place internal orders for food and supplies that will be needed
Manage food prep to ensure all items are prepped before event start time
Manage food item quantities by collaborating with kitchen and office teams
Receive & expedite food orders from guests
Manage food truck cashiers
Understand POS system and help troubleshoot during service
Communicate daily with chef & managers about events, updates, and end of the night recaps
Make customers feel welcome, speak knowledgeably about the Company's background and our menu
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Strong knowledge of food preparation, food safety and sanitation practices
3 years of previous restaurant, catering, and/or event experience
1 year leadership experience
Ability to multitask and keep organized
Ability to stay calm and make good decisions under pressure
Fast precision, yet perform accurately during busy periods
Communicate efficiently - both give and take direction
Confidently able to complete tasks without assistance
Positive communication and relations with clients and coworkers
Attention to detail – organized and efficient
Professional and proactive
Sense of teamwork and urgency

Flexible to work night and weekend shifts
Ability to lift up to 50lbs & stand for extended periods
Valid food manager certificate (must pass class within 30 days of hire if you do not already have certificate)
Valid driver's license and excellent driving record
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Pay starts at $18/hour, with revenue share adding another $4-6/hour. Once you are trained and running events, pay can increase quickly and significantly. Insurance, PTO, retirement savings, staff meal, dining/catering discounts.
