Somerset Berkley and Somerset Public Schools is Hiring a Physical Education Teacher 9-12 Near Somerset, MA

JOB GOAL: To develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness/ wellness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of students in physical achievement; to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each students ability and provide students with skills that will transfer to life sport and activity as an adult. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: I. Demonstrates currency in the curriculum. A.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the core curriculum in Physical Education.B. Frames curriculum around key learning standards/concepts in Physical Education that provide opportunities for reasoning, logic, analysis and synthesis when planning units, lessons, and assessments.C. Keeps current in the field of Physical Education and applies knowledge to the instructional program.D. Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the curriculum.II.
Conducts effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction A. Effectively plans instruction and assessment in Physical Education and monitors students understanding of the curriculum. Adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate. III.Manages the classroom environment and creates an atmosphere that is positive for student learning and involvement in Physical Education.IV.
Delivers instruction in Physical Education effectively. A. The teacher makes learning goals of Physical Education clear to students and uses instructional techniques appropriate for Physical Education.B.The teacher implements the Local Wellness Policy as it relates to goals for physical activity.C. The teacher uses a variety of teaching strategies, including cooperative, peer and project-based learning; audio-visual presentations, lecture, discussions and inquiry, practice and application; and the teaching of others.D.The teacher uses questioning techniques appropriate to Physical Education.E.
The teacher evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.V. Promotes and communicates high standards and expectations in Physical Education for student achievement.VI. Promotes equity and appreciation of diversity and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning. A.The teacher demonstrates an appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.VII.
Fulfills all professional responsibilitiesA. Cooperates in interactions with parents and is receptive to their contributions.B. Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district.C.Exercises reflection on teaching and education and embraces the concept of continuous learning.VIII.Completes any other duty or assignment as directed by the Principal.
