Regular USA, Michigan, Detroit Job Overview and Responsibilities The Customer Technical Development (CTD) function within Solvay Specialty Polymers is designed to provide strong technical expertise and value to our customers by leveraging the entire product portfolio, resources, and know-how of the GBU. The engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise to customers and will interact with the internal organization (commercial teams, Application Development Labs, R&D, Manufacturing, etc.) to develop solutions for our customers. Job responsibilities

* Work directly with customers in collaboration with the Market Cluster Commercial team(s) (Account and Market Managers) to identify & develop opportunities in applications where Solvays specialty polymers can add value and solve customer problems.

* Work directly with the Global CTD community plus our Application Development and R/D teams, to develop and implement solutions for customer applications. This includes polymer material recommendation and validation, design support for metal to plastic conversion, prototyping support, tooling design recommendations, and processing assistance.

* Provide technical training both internal and external about designing with polymers, polymer selection, polymer processing, simulation and prototyping.

* Collaboratively interact and share expertise with the global technical and commercial teams.

Education and Experience

* Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent applicable technical degree. (Masters degree preferred)

* Min 5 years of experience in a technical position working with polymers: knowledge of polymer physics/behavior, melt processing (in particular injection molding), and application development.

* Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with both external customers and within a global Solvay team.

* Strong communication skills & customer-focus.

* Willing and able to travel ~60% of the time.

Skills Preferred Qualifications

* Preferred candidates will have a good understanding of polymer materials used in Transportation/Automotive/Aerospace applications, including PAs, PPA, PPS, PEEK, PAEK, PAI and/or others.

* Preferred candidates will have a good understanding of the current transportation trends in e-mobility and light weighting.

* Ideally, candidates will have hands-on experience working with polymers in a manufacturing environment (ex. injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming, & various welding techniques).

* Strong analytical skills, technically-oriented.

* Good communication skills.

* Ability to apply technical knowledge in a customer-facing commercial environment.
