As a Virtual School Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers within our online learning environment. You will work remotely, utilizing video conferencing technology to provide real-time interpretation of lectures, discussions, and other educational materials.
Key Responsibilities:

• Provide sign language interpretation for live virtual classes, ensuring accurate communication between students and educators.
• Translate spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, maintaining clarity and fidelity of information.
• Assist in creating accessible instructional materials by providing sign language translations for videos, presentations, and written content.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to support the academic success of deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment by promoting understanding and appreciation of deaf culture and language.
• Stay informed about advancements in sign language interpretation techniques, educational technology, and accessibility standards.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students and staff.

Qualifications:

• Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) with a strong understanding of deaf culture and linguistic principles.
• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) preferred.
• Previous experience providing sign language interpretation in educational settings, particularly in virtual or online environments, is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information accurately and empathetically.
• Proficiency in using video conferencing platforms and other online communication tools.
• Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced virtual learning environment, prioritizing tasks effectively and managing time efficiently.
