Overview:

Since 1977, Sojourner Center has been a safe haven from domestic violence for women and their children in Arizona. Since our founding, we have transformed lives by providing shelter and support services to more than 60,000 adults and children affected by domestic violence. We provide a broad spectrum of services to victims of domestic violence, while working with professionals in the field on education, research and advocacy with the goal of ending domestic violence.

Job Summary: The Director of Programs has responsibility for strategic planning and overall operations of the Sojourner Center Participant Programs. This position includes responsibilities for developing, planning, supervising, and evaluating program services, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements and monitoring emerging trends/best practices in the field of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.

Schedule: Monday-Friday (will hold on-call responsibilities)

Salary: $70,000/annual

Responsibilities:
  • Recognizes and effectively responds to impacts of domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking and trauma; provides professional development, team development, domestic violence dynamics training, and leadership training to Sojourner Center staff and outside agency collaborations.
  • Provides direct support, training, and resources for direct reports, and group supervision in team meetings to ensure quality service delivery is being provided; facilitates classes offered on-site/off-site. Promotes culturally appropriate service provision.
  • Completes reports, monitors progress and provides input for relevant contracts. Promotes team awareness and maintains up-to-date contacts of community resources, provides training for staff regarding community resources, and ensures provision of referrals and follow-up oversight.
  • Discerns and prioritizes needs of program participants, staff, and the agency and takes appropriate action to efficiently and effectively meet the needs utilizing critical thinking, team problem solving, program development, and involvement with all levels of management, as appropriate. Uses creativity and innovation in developing new programs to incorporate current best practices to cultivate new community partnerships.
  • Practices financial stewardship by ensuring the facility, equipment, and supplies are maintained in good repair, the program is within budget requirements, and staff resources are being maximized. Also actively participates in evaluating if program services meet community needs, including partnering in Program Development and grant writing, and decisions to discontinue or change programs.
  • Initiates and facilitates communication with other departments (support services) concerning program changes, information updates, and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Provides constant oversight of program implementation and quality assurance in concert with trauma informed care and best practices.
  • Participates in collaborative efforts with partners in the domestic and sexual violence community regarding innovation and implementation of best practices, including crisis support, housing, best practices, facilitation of training and community education. Promotes agency wide services within the community at large. Actively participates on Leadership Teams and Task Forces and attends community meetings as assigned.
  • Strengthens existing and forges new relationships to build Sojourner Centers visibility, impact, and resources by cultivating individual, business investment and foundation philanthropic support.
  • Holds on call responsibilities.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a Social Services-related field and experience in the field of family violence and/or related trauma, or a Bachelors Degree, plus at least eight years' senior level management experience; or any combination of education/experience that meets the job qualifications.
  • Must have experience facilitating training and team development.
  • Ability to obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Physical Factors/Working Conditions

  • Stands, walks, and sits continuously throughout the day.
  • Reaches, stoops, bends, lifts, carries and manipulates various materials.
  • Utilizes computer and standard office equipment.
  • Some travel between work locations and in the community is required.
