Job Summary:
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides basic care to patients under the supervision of licensed nurses or other healthcare professionals. CNAs assist with activities of daily living, monitor patient vital signs, and provide emotional support to patients and their families.

Responsibilities:

  • Personal Care: Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
  • Vital Signs Monitoring: Measure and record patient vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure.
  • Mobility Assistance: Help patients move around safely, including transferring between beds and wheelchairs, and assisting with walking or using mobility aids.
  • Nutritional Support: Assist with meal preparation, feeding patients who require assistance, and monitoring patients' food and fluid intake.
  • Hygiene Assistance: Provide assistance with oral care, skin care, and maintaining cleanliness and comfort for patients.
  • Patient Monitoring: Observe and report changes in patients' physical or mental condition to the nursing staff, including signs of discomfort, pain, or distress.
  • Environmental Support: Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly patient environment, including making beds, tidying rooms, and ensuring equipment is in working order.
  • Emotional Support: Offer companionship and emotional support to patients, providing reassurance and comfort as needed.
  • Documentation: Record patient care activities accurately and timely in medical records, including observations, interventions, and patient responses.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with nurses, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare team members to provide holistic patient care and support interdisciplinary treatment plans.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Completion of a state-approved CNA training program and certification by passing a competency exam.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent may be required by some employers.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, empathy, and compassion for patients.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move patients, stand for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Ethics: Adherence to ethical and professional standards, including maintaining patient confidentiality and respecting patients' rights and dignity.
