Soaring Heights Charter School is Hiring an Elementary Art Teacher Near Jersey, NJ

Soaring Heights Charter School, established in 1997, is an academically high-performing K-8 public school in Jersey City, New Jersey. The school is seeking a hard-working, enthusiastic individual for a part-time/full-time Art and Computer teacher for immediate hire.

Job Summary

An ideal candidate embraces the connection that exists across various forms of art; they should have experience making or teaching students to utilize a wide range of technological platforms.The candidate must demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of G-Suite for Education, video conferencing applications, general website and computer proficiency.

More specifically, visual art-educators with a background in Digital Media, Photography, Video Production, Graphics, Interactive App/Game Design, and/or Sound Art are highly encouraged to apply. An essential piece of this position will be the development of meaningful curricula that embrace a multitude of media approaches. Technical experience and knowledge of Mac/PC machines and software, printers, scanners, cameras, pen tablets, smart devices, networking, etc. is a plus. It is essential that they possess educational experience in order to aid in student exploration of media arts.

Responsibilities and Duties

Interpersonal aptitude

  • Plan, present and assess lessons based upon the curriculum and state standards, and supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips

Patience

  • Enforce school and class rules in order to create a calm, relaxed teaching/learning environment

Organization

  • Assigning and grading projects and examinations. Keep current records for classes which include taking attendance and calculating grades. Record and report on students' progress. Prepare the classroom by gathering and setting up equipment. Ensure the classroom is clean after each lesson. Monitor inventory and sourcing art supplies.

Resourcefulness

  • Prepare for lessons by getting materials ready or setting up equipment, such as computers prior to lesson

Communication

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and parent-teacher meetings.

Qualifications and Skills

The candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree of Art or Art Education and a New Jersey Certificate of Art: Content Knowledge.
