FTE Per-Diem 

OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Imaging Manager, performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment and initiative.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • The Sonographer acts in accordance with hospital policies with high degree of professional ethics and conduct.
  • Discretion must be used in several areas such as patient care and scheduling.
  • The imaging manager is contacted regarding equipment malfunctions, supply requests and any unusual situations that depart from standard policies and procedures.
  • Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures of specified body areas by properly positioning patients and locating/scanning areas for interpretation as directed by the physician or radiologist.
  • Explains procedures to patients and/or family members ensuring cooperation and optimum test results and to reduce anxiety.
  • Delivers exams to Radiologist/Physician for interpretation/review following established procedures.
  • Prepares or cleans patient rooms by changing linens, stocking supplies, wiping off tables and cleaning equipment, ensuring an efficient and clean working environment.
  • Assist with various invasive procedures as appropriate including, but not limited to, biopsies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, etc.
  • Maintain availability to other units in the hospital, performing various exams as ordered by the physician (i.e., Med Surg, ER, or Surgery).
  • Maintains ultrasound equipment by performing scheduled cleanings/tests and document results. Contacts service personnel and notify supervision of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Prepares or cleans patient rooms by changing linens, stocking supplies, wiping off tables and cleaning equipment, ensuring an efficient and clean working environment.
  • Schedules patients as needed and ensures patients receive adequate service.
  • Attend routine and mandatory meetings and in-services as required for this position. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Satisfactory completion of a formal Ultrasound training program or equivalent training as specified by The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Two years of hospital based experience is required.

SKILLS: Must complete skills checklist at the time of hire

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Occasional exposure to chemicals and odors. Exposure to bodily fluids while assisting physician with biopsy procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to grasp firmly with both hands and lift up to twenty (20) pounds routinely throughout the shift. Standing, walking, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, twisting, reaching, handling, kneeling, and wrist and digital dexterity. Patient lifting, ambulating, and transfer of patients in wheelchairs, on gurneys and beds, and for use of mechanical lifts. Concentration, attention to detail and corrected vision are needed to observe images for images.

Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.

Employee Dependents - Your legal spouse or domestic partner, Dependent children until age 26.

Waiting Period - 1st of the month following 30 days from your date of hire.
