Snoqualmie Indian Tribe is Hiring a Restoration & Monitoring Program Specialist (Internal & Tribal Candidates Only) Near Snoqualmie, WA

Description

Restoration and Monitoring Program Specialist will work with the Restoration Program Manager, Restoration Team, Outreach Program Manager, GIS Team, Water Quality Department, Cultural Staff, Public Partners, and the Department Director to implement and monitor habitat restoration and noxious weed removal projects.

Essential Duties:

  • On the ground restoration project implementation including planting and weed removal. 
  • Monitoring and maintenance of completed projects.
  • Lead vegetation and water quality monitoring.
  • Assist less experienced Restoration Team staff as necessary while conducting field work. 
  • Work with Restoration Program Manager to coordinate education and outreach, including organization and implementation of volunteer events.
  • Utilize and develop Field Applications & GIS to provide project tracking & progress.
  • Direct and coordinate with contract crews and partners (WCC, Stewardship Partners, KC Noxious Weeds, Mt. Si Green Team, etc.).
  • Assist in writing and collaborating on grant applications to secure funding for new and ongoing restoration projects.
  • Assist in reporting on ongoing grants & projects, planning project execution, outlining multiple project timelines.
  • Assist in creating & maintaining project management systems (project tracking spreadsheets, file organization, photo tracking, GIS applications) to aid in communication, tracking, and progress.
  • Communicating project progress both verbally and in writing with outside stakeholders.
  • Represent the Snoqualmie Tribe at volunteer events, presenting at conferences and in the public through stakeholder meetings (KWG, Watershed Forum, Tribal Habitat Conference, etc.).
  • Assist with monthly and semi-annual Water Quality Monitoring including equipment calibration, measurements, quality control, and organizing data in multi-year datasets as needed.

Additional Duties:

  • Maintain necessary/relevant certifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to be culturally sensitive.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Knowledge of various habitat restoration methods and practices and adaptive management practices (know how to respond to individual site needs/working knowledge of experimental and proved field practices on a hyper-local level).
  • Knowledge of Northwest native plant communities and their importance in the implementation of resilient and successful habitat restoration projects.
  • Knowledge and experience in relevant restoration field monitoring techniques.
  • Ability to work with a team, take initiative, and communicates clearly with team members.
  • Ability to encourage others to seek opportunities for different and innovative approaches to addressing problems and opportunities.
  • Ability and comfort in occasionally directing volunteers, contract crews in restoration tasks.
  • Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with supervisors.
  • Must be proficient with computers and general office equipment.
  • Managing email correspondence at least once per day on workdays is expected.
  • GIS Proficient – ability to use smart phone apps, interpret maps, and represent data visually.

Education & Experience:

Education Required: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Experience:

  • At least two years of experience planning and implementing riparian habitat restoration projects.
  • Experience managing/supervising restoration crews and volunteers in the field and office.
  • Experience collecting and proofing data in the field on paper and through ESRI/GIS mobile apps.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Maintain WA Pesticide Applicator’s License. 
  • Must have and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License. 
  • Other certifications or the ability to obtain may be required, as necessary. 

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation. 
  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.

Tribal Preference:

The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe follows the Tribal Hiring Preference as outlined in tribal policies, including the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). TERO sets forth certain hiring preferences for qualified individuals who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe, as well as, in some cases, preference for certain family members of those individuals.

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time hourly position and employment is at-will.
  • Compensation will be determined based on experience, starting at $29.55 per hour.
  • This position is currently only open to internal and tribal member candidates only.
