As a Community Engagement Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting various organizational needs, public grants, and event initiatives aimed at advancing the mission and strategic objectives of our library district.

Join us in making a meaningful impact on our local community and championing the importance of libraries. The Community Engagement Specialist supports strategic and community relations initiatives, programs, and activities, including opportunities to share library information through strategic, stakeholder, community, and partnership engagement events. Additionally, this role provides technical-level support on grant and engagement functions for the organization and its working groups. This specialized work will serve within the Strategic Services Department to support strategic grant, government, and community partnerships. The position works 15 hours a week, to be determined between manager and the successful candidate.

This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by AFSCME Council 2.

Essential Functions

  1. Develop, implement, and provide outreach and engagement strategies to solicit and strengthen community engagement.
  2. Work closely and collaboratively with public officials and community partners to identify community partnership opportunities and grants that are responsive to and reflective of the needs and interests of the library and also community members.
  3. Develop and sustain relationships with external stakeholders to further communications and community engagement efforts.
  4. Work closely and collaboratively to design communications tools, including messaging and outreach efforts, to promote the library district and its services to the community.
  5. Research, monitor, and implement promotional materials and communications tools for outreach in close collaboration with communications, including messaging and outreach efforts to promote the library district and its services to our community.
  6. Support and provide equitable access and support to reach communities we currently do not reach through materials and outreach. This would include the translation of materials.
  7. Participate as a member of the Sno-Isle Libraries grants team to align and prioritize grant applications, contracts, and follow-up reporting.
  8. Establish effective working relationships and collaborate with the state Department of Commerce staff to advance Sno-Isle Libraries state capital grants. This supports the organizational strategic goals of creating inspiring spaces and optimizing library funding so that we can continue to be good stewards of our finances.
  9. Works inclusively with individuals, networks and organizations to explore shared interests and create and act on common goals, priorities and visions.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Continually acquire new knowledge and update skills to enhance professional performance in all areas of responsibility.
  2. Monitor and report work metrics for dashboard evaluation and effectiveness analysis.
  3. Prepares reports, news releases and other public communications materials.
  4. Attends meetings, trainings and workshops as assigned.
  5. Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Supervision

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Strategic Relations.

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in Communications, political science, or a closely related field.
  2. At least three years of experience in community relations, public engagement and volunteer coordination or other related work.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

Most of the work is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to operate computers for extended periods of time.

The incumbent must regularly communicate with coworkers and members of the public. These contacts and situations are deemed to be generally safe and free of undue stress, but require incumbents to be cordial, helpful, and skilled in interpersonal relations with others both in the public and within the Library District.

Incumbents may travel to various sites in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions. To accomplish this travel, the incumbent must be able to drive and hold a valid Washington State driver's license or to make independent arrangements for such transportation.
