Position:

Child and Adolescent Therapist

Position Summary:

The Child and Adolescent Therapist provides client centered therapeutic services to address the client’s mental, emotional, and behavioral health goals through coordinated activities and referrals. The therapist also works to connect youth to holistic supportive services with the goal of developing skills that lead to sustainable mental health goals. This position provides mental health services to LGBTQ youth clients ages 10 and up and their families within the school setting in Prince George's County and within the agency both virtually and in-person. The child and adolescent therapist will be responsible for providing services related to the delivery of mental health care to assigned clients at the designated school location and will provide consultation services to the school staff to support the overall mental health goals of the school. The therapist also provides intakes/evaluations, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, psychoeducation, and support groups. Monday-Friday - day time and evening hours depending on client schedules.

Position Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling at designated school assignments both virtually and in-person. 
  • Provide intakes and assessments of new clients.
  • Coordinate psychosocial, legal, and medical referrals as needed. 
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed, facilitate peer mediation, and if necessary, refer clients for psychiatric assessment. 
  • Assist clients in advocating for and obtaining benefits and entitlements. 
  • Plan and lead group therapy sessions.
  • Assist in program management duties including but not limited to, coordinating with volunteers and outside stakeholders, participating in community events, engaging in population advocacy.
  • Liaise with other service providers and assist in outreach efforts. 
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining community partnerships.
  • Present psychosocial needs, strengths and limitations of all assigned clients during supervision and interdisciplinary (staff meetings) care planning meetings, and case consultation. 
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate, up to date, client records and documentation, and clinical notes. 
  • Manage referrals and case conferences with referring agencies, groups, and/or individuals.

Position Qualifications:

  • Master of Social Work or equivalent master’s degree 
  • LGSW or licensed in the mental health field: All applicants MUST be licensed.
  • Bilingual in Spanish HIGHLY preferred
  • 2 years of experience providing therapeutic services
  • Strong working knowledge of mental health, LGBT issues, and clinical practice for effective provision of psychotherapy to diverse populations
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and competence with issues related to racial, cultural, gender identity and sexual minority status
  • Strong knowledge and skills in working with adolescents, families, and supportive systems
  • Experience and/or specialized training in expressive therapies, including but not limited to play therapy, psychodrama, art therapy
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check 
  • Ability to pass an employee drug screening
