Smurfit Kappa is Hiring a Forklift/Material Handler - 6am-6pm; 3 Days On/3 Days Off Near San Antonio, TX

The responsibility of the Material Receiving Coordinator is to ensure that production lines and/or areas have the necessary parts, materials, equipment and supplies to build product when needed with zero down time and meeting the company’s goal of safety, quality, productivity, and delivery. The Material Receiving Coordinator works in multiple capacities including packaging, pulling material, and palletizing. Cross training in all areas is a requirement in order to help the Material department maintain flexibility. This role includes Shipping and Receiving. Knowledge of FIFO and Kanban is essential in this position. The candidate must show that they can train and lead by example in a fast-paced work environment. In the absence of the Production Lead, this position reports to the Production Supervisor.

Primary Duties

  • Perform all work in accordance with the highest standards of SKNA-Vitop safety policies, ensure all safety policies and processes are enforced.
  • Successfully complete all essential training
  • Operates material handling equipment such as forklifts, stand up lifts, tuggers, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to pick, move, stock and/or reorganize materials.
  • Loads, unloads incoming and outbound trucks.
  • Moves materials within the plant.
  • Delivers materials and supplies to production areas as required.
  • Participates in routing, counting, and inspecting items while loading and unloading trucks.
  • Prepares, submits, and delivers area reports as required.
  • Operates, set up, collect and/or verify data from equipment.
  • Inspect, clean, fill, empty, tag, identify resin hopper feeding system.
  • Ensures ALL plastic bags are wiped and cleaned prior to emptying into hoppers.
  • Ensures the CORRECT resin is filled into each hopper and maintains hoppers always filled during the shift.
  • Fills out and maintains resin traceability log sheet for quality.
  • Assist in the delivery of finished goods from assembly to shipping dock or any area required.
  • Pick, store, organize, and stage material according to standardized work.
  • Operate label printer.
  • Carry out Standard Work Scheduled activities as defined by the Supervisor.
  • Back up other team members, when necessary, regardless of department and as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Work with all departments to meet daily tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Qualification/Experience

  • High school education or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Basic reading and math.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience handling materials.
  • Forklift experience (Stand up/Sit down).
  • Experience using wrapping machine .
  • Ability to conduct physical inventory/cycle counting.
  • Knowledge of Safety ,5S, LEAN /TPS Toyota Production System a plus.
  • Experience with basic hand tools required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment; overtime and/or weekends and to rotate jobs or shifts as needed.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer software, email, excel, and internet.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of safety practices and expectations.
  • Knowledge of quality practices and expectations, and respect for product.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Ability to successfully pass written and driving forklift testing to become a certified forklift driver.
  • Knowledge of FIFO and Kanban processes.
  • Understanding standard work (SOP’s).
  • Understands and follows Company’s quality and corporate/environmental policies.
  • Understands and follows procedures and work instructions established by SKNA - Vitop, USA.

Skills

  • Skilled in lifting heavy packages and objects.
  • Skilled in operating pallet truck and powered industrial vehicles in tight and congested areas.
  • Skilled in problem solving.
  • Basic computer skills (i.e., email, data entry).
  • Basic administrative skills (i.e., filing, organization).

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and stack objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and frequently exert 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Work involves frequent periods of standing and walking, climbing ladders, staircases, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting/turning, and reaching, bending at the waist. Indoor/ out-door work environment with exposure to weather extremes.
  • Must be able to perceive the nature of sound, utilize near and far vision, depth perception, provide oral information, and possess the manual dexterity to handle and work with various materials and objects which are essential aspects of this position.
  • The noise level in the work environment is dependent on area of the plant.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (eye protection, ear protection, hand protection and safety shoes) is required for specific tasks and/or area of the plant worked in.
