SMS Staffing Inc is Hiring Immediately. Job Title: Customs/Trade Technician Job Location: North Chicago, IL, U.S.A. Job Type: Contract (possible extension or conversion) Pay: Starts at $27.00 an hour Shift Structure: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; ONSITE, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week About the Role:
Possess and apply a basic understanding and working knowledge of US import/export regulations and requirements to support business needs.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of the client company’s internal control framework for customs and trade and apply it to daily activities in a way that protects the client company from risk exposure and penalties.
Troubleshoot import delays and ensure timely and accurate response to Broker Requests for Information for shipments detained during clearance through US Customs, FDA, USDA and other government agencies. Untimely or inaccurate responses to the client company’s broker directly result in supply chain delays, increased costs, and potential fines, penalties and/or product seizures.
Conduct compliance spot-checks of sites/divisions to ensure compliance with corporate post-entry and post-export review requirements.
Conduct monthly risk targeting analysis of US import/export data to identify potential data anomalies, compliance concerns, and cost-savings opportunities.
Investigate issues and report findings and concerns to the Manager/Director.
Ensure implementation and close-out of corrective actions by the division.
About You: The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
An Associate's Degree or Bachelor’s degree.
Import/export custom regulation experience -19 and 15 CFR of FDA, USDA
HTS classification experience
Minimum 2 years experience in imports. Export experience a plus
Detail oriented
Strong/effective written and oral communication skills
Able to multitask
