Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting in the placement of copper and fiber optic cables in a variety of environments, indoor and outdoor. Specific responsibilities include testing and placement of copper fiber optic cables. Ensure all work performed follows standards and specifications.
  • Specific responsibilities include opening, bonding, splicing, testing and placement of fiber optic cables. Ensure all work performed follows standards and specifications.
  • Install, repair, and test copper and fiber cable.
  • Scope, clean and document Fiber Readings. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge in all types of cable and installation and maintenance activity, cable and safety test equipment and practices, and use of common cable construction equipment.
  • Locate and repair cable faults to maintain existing cable network without causing failure interruptions.
  • Validate and test end-to-end service provisioning for cable networks.
  • Confirm accurate cable terminations on cross connect, patch panels, hubs and routers.
  • Run, terminate and test telecommunication inside wiring, including cat5/6 cabling.
  • Place infrastructure equipment, including racks, frames and associated cable run and wire management devices. May also be responsible for placing end-user devices, such as PC workstations and telephones. 
  • Manage pole climbing, working at heights, handling ladders, and pushing, pulling and bending equipment. Work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions. Work on-call 24 hours a day for emergency repairs.
  • Maintain safe and secure work environment by complying with Government standards and legal regulations.
  • Review site surveys, condition discrepancy reports, design drawings, technical manuals for cable installation feasibility.
  • Understand construction prints and splice schematics.
  • Maintain project tracing information such as production sheets, time sheets, and customer required paperwork.
  • Take the users requirement and design/engineer a technical solution and parts list to include equipment, cable types and color, connectors, and faceplates. In the Technical solution, provide a man-hour estimate for the install and manpower requirement to accomplish the work.
  • Update drawings and connectivity cut-sheets.
  • Update project status and job log.
  • Monitor supply process to ensure parts get ordered, shipped, inventoried and customer gets invoiced.

Qualifications

  • High School (GED), plus a minimum of two years of copper and fiber optic cabling and network construction and maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrate ability to Problem Solve and Troubleshoot.
  • Knowledge of the different types of fiber applications (SC/LC/ST/FC).
  • Basic knowledge of the use and types of fiber attenuators.
  • Candidate should have experience working with fiber and copper cabling.
  • Must be able to work on a ladder, crawl under floors, above ceilings, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Understanding usage of both common hand tools and powered tools.
  • Familiar with Fluke test equipment to test cables after installation. 
  • Demonstrate the proper use of splice trays.
  • Posses knowledge in first aid and CPR.
  • Work includes travel, which can go up to 3 months or longer with no travel home during the work effort. (Normally 3-4 weeks). May require travel on weekends.
  • Requires an active DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
