Integration Controls Engineer

The ideal candidate should have the following attributes and/or skills: 

  • BS in ME, EE, Automation or related field and 5 years related experience in design of automated equipment. Proficient working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and welding equipment. 
  • Expert knowledge of PLC Systems (Siemens)
  • Expert knowledge of 3D CAD software
  • Expert knowledge of HMI development
  • Mechanical, Electrical, plastics processing
  • Technical Root Cause Analysis
  • Maintenance systems – Reliability/Preventive
  • Planning of investments – new equipment
  • Ability to coordinate with outside suppliers
  • Microsoft Office / SAP
  • English

Main Duties

  • Project management and complete design of electro-mechanical equipment used in industrial manufacturing environment – as well as retrofit of current automation on-site
  • Development of machine mechanisms, assemblies, machine function and debugging industrial equipment
  • Specification of PLC, robots, drives/motors and field devices.
  • Establish operating procedures, training materials and maintenance requirements for newly implemented machinery 
  • Cost-conscious, responsible and result-oriented actions within the framework of the given company organization
  • Standardization of manufacturing equipment/components used at SMPAL 
  • Provide final acceptance of all new equipment technology 
  • Design mechanical systems for new, or retrofit existing, manufacturing automation machinery
  • Design and specify electrical components for custom automated industrial machinery
  • Coordinate with other engineers and manufacturing personnel to ensure design intent, function and cost effectiveness of production are achieved.
  • Establish tech manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventive maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for new automated equipment/processes
  • Manage individual project budgets and schedules and routinely report on progress
  • Ability to receive feedback and improvement suggestions from internal customers as well as brainstorm with cross-functional teams
  • Adhere to good manufacturing and documentation practices
  • Lead, advise and train junior personnel
  • Ability to work on projects and tasks without direct supervision
  • Function as the main technical liaison within the maintenance group for automated equipment
  • Planning and purchasing/procurement for new model ancillary equipment
  • Works in conjunction with all other maintenance depts to develop countermeasures and horizontally deploy to all like equipment
  • Analyzes process and/or failure data to determine the need for improved craft skills
  • Assists Maintenance Planner with the selection/ purchasing / procurement and storage of the magazine items
  • Can be called upon to assist all Maintenance Managers with all aspects of Injection Molding/Paint and Assembly functions
  • Responsible for generation of plant standards regarding plant equipment, components and brands
  • Sustained continuous improvement process actions and process and product optimization
  • Operations improvement through implementation of Predictive Technology
  • Supports monitoring and improvement of MTBF and MTTR on production equipment 
  • Responsible to perform statistical analysis on machinery failure data to determine whether adjustments to the Engineered Maintenance Strategy are warranted
  • Reviews and/or develops machinery modification plans to deal with single-point failure scenarios
  • Special tasks as assigned.
