Smoky Mountain Children's Home is Hiring a Medication Technichian - Part Time Near Sevierville, TN

Role Description
The PRN medication technician is supervised by the Program Manager who manages the daily campus schedule. According to the training provided by Smoky Mountain Children's Home and the Tennessee Department of Children's Services, medication techs are responsible for administering medication to adolescents during scheduled times. Med techs administer medication to one youth at a time, one medication at a time, and follow the industry standard five rights of medication administration. Med techs are responsible for supervising one youth at a time during medication administration with other staff support in the cottage milieu.
Responsibilities
  • Review daily updates to the youth's record via email and in the youth's chart to identify changes in the youth's medication management routine.
  • Prepare the medication administration space for proper medication administration procedures.
  • Manage the medication administration space safely and orderly, reducing distractions and medication errors. Only one youth at a time is allowed in the medication administration space to maintain privacy and reduce risk.
  • Follow the five rights of medication administration.
  • Properly document all medications administered and relevant information to the medication administration experience per child in the youth's chart and to the team via email.
  • Report any medication errors to the campus supervisor, the agency nurse, and the Residential Director immediately.
  • Report any medication-related needs to the campus supervisor, the agency nurse, and the Residential Director before the end of the shift.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and accept supervision.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and extensive background checks.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to use word processing systems and Google Workspace such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.
  • Ability to remain organized and on task to manage one's schedule and the schedule of the milieu.
  • Excellent communication skills for an at-risk adolescent population proficient in de-escalation and listening skills.
  • Ability to follow written instructions, communicate electronically, stay focused on details, and follow standard procedures consistently.
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) Preferred.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday, 6 AM - 8 AM
Physical Demands
  • Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
  • Alternate sitting and standing
  • Make fast, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
