Smoky Hill Education Service Center is Hiring a High School Principal Near Topeka, KS

Lawrence Gardner High School Principal

Smoky Hill Education Service Center is seeking candidates for the position of 7-12 Building Principal for our program at Lawrence Gardner High School inside the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex in Topeka. This person will be responsible for organizing and administering a school program based on a blended learning philosophy. Candidates must have extensive knowledge of and experience with curriculum, instructional strategies, and educational best practices.

Requirements:

· Valid Kansas Building Administrator’s License.

Position Responsibilities Include:

· Leading a comprehensive educational program tailored to the needs of students, ensuring alignment with state standards and educational best practices.

· Collaborating with teachers and staff members to develop a curriculum that addresses the diverse academic needs and learning styles of students, incorporating relevant real-world applications.

· Establishing and maintaining a positive and safe school climate through effective discipline policies and procedures, providing guidance and support to students, and promoting a culture of respect and accountability.

· Helping recruit, hire, and evaluate teaching and support staff, providing ongoing professional development and mentorship to enhance instructional effectiveness and foster a collaborative work environment.

· Maintaining a positive learning environment within the school by responding to the educational needs of students.

· Supporting teachers and support staff members in their school roles.

· Communicating effectively and working cooperatively with other members of the school community.

· Working independently and efficiently to complete administrative functions.

· Leading the efforts of all school staff members to meet student needs.

· Preparing reports and records expected of school administrators.

· Remaining current on developments of the profession through professional development and meeting with other educators.

· Overseeing day-to-day administrative operations, including scheduling and compliance with state and federal regulations.

· Performing other duties as assigned by Smoky Hill ESC leadership.

Additional Requirements:

· Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

· Capacity to work with students of varying abilities and backgrounds.

· Ability to maintain positive working relationships with students and staff.

· Effective organization and time management skills.

· Strong interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills with the ability to present information effectively to a wide range of audiences.

Qualifications:

· Master’s degree in Education or a related field and a valid Kansas administrative license.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience in educational leadership, preferably in a high school setting.

· Experience working with adjudicated youth or in a correctional facility is highly desirable.
